Mastering the Art of Online Arguments – Do it Like the Pros

Frustration - Fist through the Computer

Online arguments can take up a lot of your precious time. Over the last decade, I’ve had my fair share of disagreements and arguments on the internet. After wasting countless hours arguing in forums, blog comments, facebook, etc, I realized that I was not dealing with it the right way.

To be more efficient with my time, I came up with this flowchart:

Mastering Online Arguments Flowchart

  • Do I have the time to argue/debate? NO, then move on. Yes?
  • Is it worth my time to argue/debate? No, then move on. Yes?
  • Smack myself on the head because I definitely have more important things to do, then move on.

If you find yourself wasting a lot of time on online arguments, then print this out and put it at your desk, so you can see it everytime.

Use Your Time Wisely

I don’t see any of the successful business folks wasting their time on Facebook arguing over something that they have no control of. They are focused on growing their business. Time is the MOST VALUABLE asset that you have. Use it wisely.

Trolls are all over the internet who will attack you no matter what. Arguing with them over the internet is not the best use of your time.

Yes, you will have disagreements with some folks who you might be your very good friends. Follow the flow chart and use your time wisely.

I’m not saying don’t have arguments. I’m saying most of them are useless.

  1. Syed even I wasted my time arguing with people over petty things on the net and later understood it does no good and moved on. Now a days if something annoys me very much about what someone said I post a reliable source or a reference to a fact and move on.
